IAWMH President
Florence Thibaut speaking at the 8th Congress on Women’s Mental Health in March 2019

Dear Members,

It is time we closed the chapter of the year 2020 (annus horribilis). We all have had to deal urgently with significant personal and professional challenges related to the coronavirus outbreak. Nevertheless, we should consider this pandemic as an opportunity to build better, stronger, more resilient societies that could bring relief as well as hope to all women on earth. For example, during the First World War and the concomitant flu pandemic, black nurses got the opportunity to serve in the US army for the first time in the history of the United States. In fact, this drama has been turned into an opportunity to improve gender equality. We hope that this pandemic will help recognize the major role of women at home and at the workplace.

The IAWMH has organized two successful webinars in 2020. The first one, coordinated by Prof Chandra and Kornstein (India and USA), focused on the experiences of colleagues from different continents during the COVID outbreak. The second one, coordinated by Prof Valdez (Ecuador), reported on violence against women in Latin America during the epidemic.

In 2021, Prof Chandra will coordinate a third webinar on suicide. It will be held on March 5th. Members will have free access to the webinar.

Wishing you and your beloved ones a safe, healthy, and prosperous new year.

With my best personal regards

Prof. Florence Thibaut, IAWMH President
